The helpful people at the tex stackexchanged recommended I posted here to see if anyone had an idea as to where the error is and/or how to solve it. Both work fine (minus the expected failures in context) individual, however the macro of latexmk then metapost gives that error. For diagnostic purposes I tried running through the custom macro just latexmk, and just the custom metapost. When I try to run that macro, it gives the oh-so-helpful error of "Error : could not start the command". I have tried configuring the metapost to sage %.sagetex.sage and then created a macro to run latexmk then metapost then latexmk then pdfviewer as per this post here. I have tried repairing the install, uninstalling MikTex and Texmaker, deleting the config file and repeating all the same steps. The problem comes when I try to configure the quickbuild to get Texmaker to run all of this at once. I wanted to import my settings from my previous laptop so i saved a config file and tried to get texmaker to start using it (all through the normal means). I also adjusted the latexmkrc file as per. Thus everything seems to be running fine. I would say that 90 of the time it doesn't work. It says it built correctly and when you check it still says 'Test' this is a frequent and intermittent problem. What did end up working though, was writing a shell script that does what I want and put it into a random custom command and choosing the quick build setting to execute it and viewing. I can't even get it to build a trivial pdf. Texmaker did not accept any attempts to customize the bibtex command in a way to accept either environment variables or cd commands or any other stuff I tried. sage file within sage itself, and then recompiled in texmaker via pdflatex and got a fully configured file. I installed Miktex and then installed TexMaker and I have been trying for hours to get the p.o.s to actually build a pdf. I have run the example.tex file that comes with sage through the pdflatex, which generated the. You just need to use TeXShop instead of TeXMaker: it sounds like TeXMaker is broken. After some toying around I have gotten sage installed, and I have Texmaker installed.
